Is it safe to paint with latex paint while pregnant?

Just wondering because I am off work and would really like to paint the nursery, but I don't know if I should. I would ask the doctor, but my appointment isn't for a while. Thanks! Is it safe to paint with latex paint while pregnant?
My best friend was about 6 months along when she decided on the color she wanted to paint the nursery which she went right out and bought. As long as you are constantly taking fresh air breaks and using those masks when you are in the room being painted you should be fine. If at any time you feel dizzy or you smell the paint leave the room right away.Is it safe to paint with latex paint while pregnant?
Paints now a days have lower levels of toxic chemicals that were once presumed to be very harmful...

I got the okay from my doctor to paint my baby's nursery... He just said to make sure you're in a very well ventilated room and to be careful going up and down a ladder since your balance is already compromised... Take lots of breaks and if you feel light headed or dizzy... Step out of the room for a glass of water and some fresh air!!

Good luck and happy painting!!!
hey i dont have an answer to your question I just saw that you answered someone else, do you remember the name of that laxative? Any one that I use causes so much cramping and is not so gentle. Thanks!

How long can you keep a latex mask?

I have a latex mask, over the head one. I would like to know how long their lifetimes are, if used every... I don't know. Once every month or so?

I've had it since April this year.

All answers will be appreciated.

OH. And any advice on how to extend how long they live for? :) Thank you.How long can you keep a latex mask?
keep all latex clean (free from skin oils and makeup etc)

Keep it 'unsticky' by using a good silicone spray (or talc if you are using a matte look)

Keep it well away from petrochemicals with will perish it (skin creams; vaseline etc)

It should last for years but being a natural product it's impossible to predict.

How long can you keep a latex mask?
Providing that you clean it after every use and store it in an appropriate place it should last you for years.
Lol that mask is scary

  • How do you get water-based latex housepaint out of hair?

My daighter was helping me paint yesterday and accidentally dipped some of her hair into the paint. She wasn't able to get 100% of it out and it's dry now.How do you get water-based latex housepaint out of hair?
Given enough time, just about any kind of household oil will dissolve the latex in the paint enough to remove it from your daughter's hair: like baby oil, or cooking oil, or 3-in-1 oil.

But, I would first recommend that you contact the manufacturer of that paint to see whether or not a particular kind of oil will be better than another, because even though the latex might come out pretty easily, the color might wind up being left behind, or might even become worse, than if you used the best kind of oil to remove the pigment as well. How do you get water-based latex housepaint out of hair?
    cut it.
';Shampoo and water.'; Read the instructions. %26lt;}:-})
Wash with a dish-washing liquid. Latex is water based for that very reason. Washes out easily. Just try again.
Gee, I don't know. I wouldn't use any kind chemical solvent on it. I get paint on my hair all the time and just shampoo every day until it washes out or I get it brushed out. I wouldn't worry about it.
Most water-based paint washes up with warm soapy water. Just continue with her hair care regimen and it will eventually wash out.

What is the best kind of latex paint?

Does anyone have any experience with a good brand of latex paint? Information on finishes (gloss, semi gloss, etc.) would be helpful too. I need something as low odor and as non toxic as possible. I have one 3 year old son and another baby on the way. (I already know not to use oil based paints and to make sure there is good ventilation, wear gloves and long sleeves and pants, etc.)

Thanks a bunch!!!!What is the best kind of latex paint?
Semi gloss paint, after it cures it is great for wiping down, also I like Dutch Boy paint but that is just a preference of my own. What is the best kind of latex paint?
I love behr paint it's awesome:)

As far as the finish that depends on for what room it is. I personally like a semi gloss or eggshell. Just go to home depot and they can help you decide on what kind and what finish.

have it shaken where you bought it. if it was stored correctly it should be fine. if its really thick and water based latex you can use water or flotrol but some people still prefer to use paint thinner even though its for oil based paints

What should I do about the latex paint that is falling off and exposing lead based paint?

Willma has caused my walls and ceilings to blister, peel, flake, exposing lead paint on plaster walls and ceilings. Since paint was in good condition when I came in 1994,[the lead paint law was in effect in 1996!] I painted over it in latex and enamal paints. I do not know if it was a problem before Willma. Lead paint is here now on bad, uneven surfaces now. What should I do about the latex paint that is falling off and exposing lead based paint?
Put a fan in the window blowing air out, open other windows and systematically ventilate the home. Stabilize loose paint keeping it moist at all times, rinse clean, surfaces that are accessible to children should in the end be smooth and cleanable. Patch smooth rather than sanding down. Use the muds that you mix with water from the dry powder to patch, when it has starting setting like cement smooth out with damp sponge with the scrubbies on one side if needed. Prime with a stain blocker, not Kilz which causes harmful fumes. Always work wet. If you are working in a manner which you think requires a respirator I ask you when is it safe to take the respirator off and breath freely? Never generate an airborne dust. Wipe all surfaces clean, rinse with clean running water your sponges. Use a cotton or cellulose mop for floors and take the cotton mop head off and rinse with running clean water inbetween wipes. Leave your shoes at the door. The leaded gasoline pollution residual dust left over in historic traffic areas contains dust your vacuum cleaner cannot trap. Keep soil from eroding onto your sidewalks. Treat all paint, soil and dust as if it is lead laden. What should I do about the latex paint that is falling off and exposing lead based paint?
Lead paint is only harmful if inhaled or injested. WEARING A RESPORATOR!, I would scrape off the peeling paint and seal the areas in a good alkyd (OIL) based primer. Then do any patching needed, and repaint.

Why would Kilz go on and dry like an orange peel over Latex paint and what should I do?

I had painted my bathroom and decided i didn't like the dark color so the next day I put Kilz(primer) over it. As it was going on it was sticky a little and dried in places like an orange peel. What should I do now?Why would Kilz go on and dry like an orange peel over Latex paint and what should I do?
Paint is required to ';cure'; for 14 days.. By painting the surface again the very next day, you caused a chemical reaction with the still wet (although, not to the touch) paint and the kitz.. You're probably going to have to go ahead and sand the surface down then use the kitz first, then paint whatever color your going to want to go with over that..Why would Kilz go on and dry like an orange peel over Latex paint and what should I do?
the wall was dirty. hairspray ect will get on bathrooms walls and cause paint to orange peel. you need to sand the kilz just in the places this happened then wash the area with tsp. rinse, allow to dry repaint. always prior to painting you need to prep the walls by washing them tsp is one of the best things to do this with. oh you may have used a semi gloss paint which would cause an orange peel to. same fix though
    Did you mix it properly?
You probably used alcohol based Kilz and it was too ';hot'; for the existing paint (hot means the primer's solvent melted into the old paint before it dried).

The old paint probably wasn't ordinary paint - probably an latex-enamel.

All you can do is sand the spots down, OR use Goof-Off OR liquid sandpaper. If need be Spackle it to even it out. Finally use a water based primer product.

My wife is seriously allergic to latex paint, what are our paint options?

Latex in paint and other household products make my wife unable to breathe. She has come close to anaphylactic shock from it before. From experience with friends who remodeled, we know that the fumes will continue to come off of the paint for months and cause her breathing difficulties. Even a few minutes exposure months after painting cause minor difficulties. We can't avoid our own house for a year.My wife is seriously allergic to latex paint, what are our paint options?
Perhaps you can try this...buy a paint primer called ';Kilz'; it is a great primer and sealer and drys very quickly. It has very strong fumes so use the proper safety gear. Then wallpaper over it. The wallpaper should adhere to the new surface very well.My wife is seriously allergic to latex paint, what are our paint options?
    Repaint
you may try oil base it will last forever if done properly if you have never used oil based paint before go to a home improvement center and talk to a paint specilist and they will be able to assist and may even be able to give you more options good luck have fun
They do make a special hypo-allergenic paint now. Check with your local paint store they might be able to order it for you. Good luck.
I'm going to assume that you already realize that latex allergies and latex paint allergies are completely unrelated. You really ought to just call a paint company. You're going to be buying the paint anyways. I will comment that there are coatings designed for use over lead paints (';lead encapsulating paints';) which might be useable over latex paints. You could also try contacting the NPCA ( http://paint.org ).

Glossy paint is not available in the new color.I want to change the color of freshly painted glossy latex paint. Can I use a semi gloss latex over it?
You might see some of the shine coming through, but I doubt it. Use two good thick coats of paint over it and it should be fine.I want to change the color of freshly painted glossy latex paint. Can I use a semi gloss latex over it?
Going one step down or up in sheen is usually not a problem. What I don't know is what kind of surface you painted glossy. In the USA, you just don't see high gloss trim while in Europe, especially the UK you see it all the time. If you are going down one step to a semi-gloss, I am not sure you will see much difference if it is applied to trim. If you've painted walls in a gloss I guess I'd ask why! The higher the sheen, the more resistant to moisture and dirt, etc. For most purposes, high traffic areas require no higher sheen than a satin (that's two steps down from a gloss). Here's the heirarchy; gloss, semi-gloss, satin, eggshell, flat. Satin paint is scrubbable and generally used in high traffic areas such as hallways and high humidity areas like bathrooms. Eggshell is washable, not scrubbable. If you're planning to go 2 or more steps apart in sheen, I'd recommend priming first. Good Luck!

It depends on how long its been. The longer the gloss paint dries, the less likely the next coat will stick to it. To be safe, use a good primer like zinnser 123 or kilz2 first (you can have it tinted so the job gets done in two coats, 1 primer, 1 semi-gloss), or wipe the walls first with a deglosser or liquid sander to promote adhesion of the next paint.
yes. as long as you don't try to use an oil base it should be fine.

How can I remove dark green latex paint from finished pine without damaging the wood underneath?

Someone gave me a handmade pine wood entertainment center- only prooblem is that is was covered with dark green latex paint. Most of it has peeled away clean, but there are spots where I can't get the pain off of, especially in the joints where the pieces were assembled. How can I remove dark green latex paint from finished pine without damaging the wood underneath?
Paint stripper. Do it outside. Wear heavy plastic gloves, it is very caustic and will burn skin! Apply as per directions with old brush. Remove with rags, dispose of rags safely, they are now caustic. Repeat if neccessary.

Wipe off all stripper, rinse with water completely. Neutralize with water made mildly acidic with a small amt of vinegar or lemon juice. Let dry. Finish as desired. Stripper at Ace, Lowes, Home Depot. How can I remove dark green latex paint from finished pine without damaging the wood underneath?
paint remover. read the instructions and cautions, most can cause skin irritations
you can try scraping it with mineral spirits, or another kind of paint remover, 15 bucks a gallon or so, orrrrrr, the harder cheaper way, is sand away....stain proper color then varnish.. about 30 bucks for finishing materials
paint remover or sand paper or a combination of both

Can I use polyurethane over wood that was painted with exterior flat latex paint?

Will it work to protect, or will it not adhere to the painted surface? Can I use polyurethane over wood that was painted with exterior flat latex paint?
You can use polyurethane over almost anything - it will just give an almost clear coat... but if you're going over latex, you need to get a water based polyurethane. Can I use polyurethane over wood that was painted with exterior flat latex paint?
Yes, It will give you added protection, to make sure that is adhears to the painted surface, (even if it is flat paint and there is no sheen to it at all, there are still additives that are in the paint that seal the surface) you will need to take a peice of fine grit sand paper, (120 grit or higher) or use a palm sander if you are doing large area, and just ';rough up'; the surface that you are applying the polyurethane to. (Basicly what you are doing is ';opening'; up the pores/surface of the painted surface so that the polyurethane adhears into the painted surface and not ON the surface) Also make sure to wipe ALL of the dust and dirt off of the surface too, or your polyurethane will just stick to the dust and dirt and peel off.

What do I use on my latex mould before casting in plaster?

My urethine (?) molds arrived today in teh post, they are wall plaques.

I have my plaster so wondered what else I need to start? Do i have to use a pre mold material on it to stop it sticking, or use something like vegetable oil?

Any advice greatly appreciated!!What do I use on my latex mould before casting in plaster?
Vegetable oil will deteriorate latex. Use baby powder, it works great. just brush it on lightly before each casting. Latex doesn't stick to much of anything, so you'd be ok to just use no mold release at all.

Sand the coroplast with fine grit sandpaper. Paint does not stick well to shiny surfaces. You need to rough it up a bit. Sand it lightly. Just enough to take the shine off.

  • Can I successfully paint a latex, satin finish, over an oil based primer?

I purchased some paints from Home Depot after consulting a painting dept. worker. I didn't know there was a difference in interior paints (latex and oil based) and I wound up buying latex paints, though he never mentioned there might be a problem. I painted my bathroom and when I removed the tape, the paint started peeling right off too, like plastic wrap. The bad news is, I also purchased a 5 gallon bucket for $60 that is non-returnable. I intended to use it for my living room. Now that I know that the paint will peel, what I can I do to paint latex over an oil based primer? I can't return the paint because it's mixed and I don't want to have wasted $60. Can I still use it? How can I paint with out peeling it off removing the painter's tape? Help! Thank you!Can I successfully paint a latex, satin finish, over an oil based primer?
How in the world did you end up with an oil based primer? It would not be my first choice for interior work (with a few exceptions), but you should be able to paint over it with latex. It will need to fully cure before you topcoat, at least 48 hours, I would lean toward curing it for a week. This is not a guess, I do it all the time but usually on exterior surfaces. Also, I sold paint for 10 years and have been through every kind of training you could imagine for paint product selection and problem correction.

I would not, under any circumstances try to find an oil paint to put on your walls. Too much of a mess as much as anything.

If you have let the primer fully cure and are still having problems, or if you would like a bit more information, it would be helpful to know exactly what kind of primer was used. Brand and anything on the front of the label would be helpful.

    ******

If this is an oil primer, you should still be able to smell it after 24 hours. Hard to describe the smell, but it is different than latex.

Look at the back of the paint that is peeling. Is it the same color as the front, or is it the color of the primer. If it is the same color as the primer, it is taking the primer off the wall as well. If your landlord used cheap latex paint instead of a primer, this is likely. The cheap latex does not bond well to drywall compound, your paint makes a strong bond to the cheap latex. The end result is when you pull on the topcoat, they both come off.

Are you sure that all of the wall was primed? Even a good latex paint does not bond well to raw compound. If this is the case, you should see the same color on the back of the paint, but it will have a dusting of compound.

Any of these possibilities should work themselves out over time. If you have already painted over an oil primer, it will eventually cure out, but it will take some time, probably a couple of weeks to reach a reasonable strength.

If it is a cheap latex paint as a primer or if the primer did not get to some spots, it should not fall off the wall unless you are pulling on it.

I would carefully remove any remaining tape. It may help to run a razor blade along the tape, to break the seal between the tape and the paint. Let the paint fully cure (again, a couple of weeks). Sand the rough edge along where the paint peeled and touch up. In the future, it is best to remove tape either while the paint is still very soft, within an hour of painting or after it is fully cured, at least a few days.

For the other room, I would find out exactly what the primer was. If it was oil, hold off on painting for a few days. If it was cheap latex paint, go ahead and paint over it but be careful with the tape. Putting another primer over top will not help, as the first coat will still be there. It will tend to get better with time as well.

If for some goofy reason he used an oil based paint (not primer), the surface will need some further prep before you can paint. Wash with a very strong solution of TSP, rinse and dry for a day or so.Can I successfully paint a latex, satin finish, over an oil based primer?
I'm not a painter, myself, but my sister owned rental property a few years back %26amp; learned to to use some kind of sizing that she used a sponge to put on - I think.

I also used to work with a painter, many years ago, %26amp; I think he had a way of putting something on over the oil based paint to make the latex adhere. I'm not sure if its called sizing, or some kind of primer, or what. I think he used to rough up the oil-based paint with sandpaper first, then put this stuff on with a paint roller, let it dry overnight, then use the latex - but I'm not positive.

Why not just call a Sherwin-Williams or other paint store %26amp; ask - ';What would I need to do if I want to use latex paint on a wall that previously had oil-based paint on it?'; That way, someone who really knows something about paint can answer your question %26amp; if you don't want them to know who you are, or buy anything from them, you won't have to. (Although if it were me %26amp; they told me a way that by spending another $20 on a product or 2 I could use the $60 worth of paint I'd already bought - I'd give them my business for the $20 now %26amp; in the future.)

    Good luck!!
You should have used TSP to break up the chemical composition of the oil based paint making it ready to accept your primer and paint. Anytime you are painting a bathroom especially, use TSP before hand. 90% of painting is prep it sucks.

Unfortunately, Home Depot employs your friends kids and can not be relied on as their commercials suggest. I would contact Kelly Moore for a repair recommendation.

They only sell oil based paint as a specialty and commonly, it is not for sale for home painting widely so dont beat yourself up, you simply did not prep properly and must fix and start over.

I hate painting but I love a fresh coat! Good luck
    That's a big fat NO.

Latex paint will not adhere to oil based primers. After it dries you can remove it with just passing your finger over it.
Absolutely, as long as you do a light sand in between coats
In order to have your paint to adhere to any surface you must first sand the surface you are appling your paint to

We were painting our old house, and I just got back with dinner, and bumped the wall. Anyone know? It is a weatherproof light brown suede jacketHow do you remove semigloss latex paint from suede?
I would take it to a dry cleaner and ask their advice. If they are willing to clean it and guarantee that they will not damage the suede, I would be more willing to try. You might also try asking the advice of a ';paint'; store that is well established. I am not suggesting that you try this without a lot of thought, but soaking fabrics in water for a while will loosen latex paint and it can be brushed away. I am not sure that I would want to do this with suede though.

How long can you wear latex gloves before they wear out?

I have powderless latex gloves I bought, and I was wondering if they could be worn for 8 hours if I wanted to, just for all-purpose non-medical / biological protection, without drying my skin out or leaving weird residue all over my hands, or any other weird things.

I would just be wearing them for fun-- pointless random fun. Because I can.

I am not allergic to Latex, and the gloves fit snugly. How long can you wear latex gloves before they wear out?
you could wear them as long at you would like but your hand may break out in a rash since your skin won't be able to breath for 8 hours. When your hands are covered like that they sweat and theres no place for the sweat to go so you may have some irritation. How long can you wear latex gloves before they wear out?
I wear latex gloves as long as I need to, or until the gloves turn all yellow from my sweat.

It's really hard to reuse latex gloves, especially after lunch or something.

I usually end up wearing the same pair of gloves and just wash the gloves before eating lunch. Report Abuse

I wear them sometimes at work, you can wear them that long, your hands should not dry out in them, but sweat after long periods of time and it's kind of gross, but it's worse putting them back on after having them off for a bit (say if you go for a break or something) thats real gross!
I suppose you could, but your hands will get kind of sticky and sweaty after an hour or two. If that doesn't bother you, it's not dangerous to wear them all day.
Latex allergy is an acquired condition. You don't want it. Every exposure you have increases your chance of developing a latex allergy. The process is insidious, I developed it after 20 years of exposure. My whole life changed. Latex is everywhere.

I would recommend you just use the latex free glove, they offer the same protection and won't cause allergy.

You can wear surgical latex/latex free for several hours, 8-10 at least. We usually only change them for a break or to breathe. I have seen Physicians wear double gloves for a 16 hour surgery.

Here is a CNN article about latex/sources.

    http://www.cnn.com/HEALTH/library/DS/00621.html
They should be fine to wear for that many hours and shouldn't give you any problems. I wear surgical gloves at times for yard work just so I'm not getting my hands dirty. I would just be sure to dispose of them when you are done so that you aren't grabbing a used pair if you need to protect your hands when helping someone who may be bleeding.

Latex is rubber. Perhaps you're not searching for rubber, or your search didn't include latex fabric? There are also other workable options, such as wet-look spandex or pleather.

In either case, I found a UK provider and a US provider of latex fabric. Also a blog on how to construct latex clothing and other items.
This web site sells latex and latex adhesive in case you're trying to do a no-sew costume. There is a review for the latex, and i always suggest that you read reviews before buying. Happy Haunting!

What is the difference between latex condoms and other forms of condoms?

Do condoms protect against all std's ?What is the difference between latex condoms and other forms of condoms?
When used PROPERLY, latex, and polyurethane condoms protect against all STDs except for crabs, and are about 99.99% effective. This makes condoms the most effective, and most comprehensive sexual protection device around, aside from abstinence.

To use your condom properly, you must ensure that it has not passed it's expiration date, that the package is not damaged, and that it has not been stored in a hot area, such as a car, or window sill.

Most condoms come with some lubrication. If you add more, make sure that you are not using an oil based lubricant (such as vaseline, or baby oil) on a latex condom.

Be sure to pinch off the little thing at the top to store your juices, put it on facing the right way, roll it all the way down your joystick, and ensure that it remains on throughout play. If at any time you remove yourself from your woman's body, be sure to grab the condom before pulling out. Otherwise the condom may slip off.

Latex condoms are made of a ';natural'; form of rubber. Polyurethane condoms are made of a slightly stiffer synthetic material. Latex stretches more, so finding the right ';size'; is not much of a problem, but oil based lubricants can eat little holes in it, and will make latex into swiss cheese. Some people are also allergic to Latex, and if you intend to engage in oral sex, the latex tends to taste bad.

Polyurethane condoms can use more types of lubricants, including one that helps to protect against AIDS, but they are not as stretchy, so a good fit can be hard to get, and research has not shown much significant AIDS prevention with the fancy lubricant. Nobody is allergic to polyurethane, and it rarely has any flavor, Polyurethane can also be made thinner, for more sensation, but it costs a bit more. You may get what you pay for though.

People with latex allergies sometimes get a sheep skin condom to separate them from the other condom. On their own, sheep skin condoms provide only slight protection against pregnancy, and little to no protection against STDs. They are also rather thick, and can significantly reduce pleasurable sensations. Finding them nowadays can be very difficult, as the polyurethane condoms are better in every way I can think of.

Some makers sell condoms in different sizes, but unless you're the kind of guy that can make your own XXX movies, you should probably stick to regular size, instead of ';magnum.'; Oddly, nobody sells ones labeled as small. I've heard that lifestyle latex condoms are usually not that great in quality. When I was in the Navy, we would buy a box of 2,750 of these for about $23.00, and there were a lot of complaints about them breaking. Most people consider Trojan to be a good brand name, though some argue that they slip off easily. Different companies may make different sizes...

Women can get polyurethane condoms that fit them, but a lot of people think these are just too weird to use. They're also about ten times as expensive as condoms for men, and are supposed to stick out of the woman. If they get pushed inside her, they are as useless as a male condom that gets sucked off during use.

Aside from the sheep skin condoms, yo should not ';double bag with more than one condom, or use a male and female condom together. However, uou can use condoms with other forms of contraceptives. Women can use pills, IUDs, sponges, diaphragms, all kinds of spermicidal chemicals, and ';natural contraception'; along with the condom. Permanent sterilization is also an option. Since ';proper'; use doesn't always work out in the real world, additional contraception is a good idea. Some of these devices and methods can help reduce the risk of some STDs, and there's nothing wrong with some added protection. What is the difference between latex condoms and other forms of condoms?
No, not all condoms protect against STD's. Lambskin will prevent pregnancy but that's it. Other condoms, like mylar for example, are a little more expensive, may be thinner, and are about equal in preventing against STD's.

Do keep in mind though, that the only way of avoiding ANY sexually related complications is abstinence.
latex condoms can kill u if you use them and your allergic... the other condoms don't use latex condoms anymore every since they found out that more n more people are allergic to them...so ones more healthier than the other
you shouldnt use condoms unless u r swimming but you should use pads.and latex is easyer to put on
they have latex and non-laytex condoms.

they don't protect against ANY stds AT ALL. NONE.

    http://www.avert.org/usecond.htm
Non latex would be for people allergic to latex.
latex condoms are non-porous, whereas lambskins and condoms made of other materials are porous, meaning they have very tiny spaces where oraganisms may get through. That is why all of the aids prevention info prescribes latex condoms.
Latex is the most popular type of condom, but some of the materials used to make it can be toxic.

Polyurethane is in some ways safer than latex, but it can break easier and is more expensive

Lambskin is the least effective for protecting against STDs

There is an unapproved, experimental ';invisible condom'; being tested in Montreal that is claims to be more effective than all the materials that precede it, but it is still early in development
Some people are allergic to latex,

Other condoms do not protect against STD's and some of them are even very lousy at stopping semen!
the material that is used to make them, and no
Condoms that aren't latex are for people with latex allergies.

No, they do not protect against ANY stds. They reduce your chances of getting them, but do not protect 100%

1st question: The material used to make the condom.

    2nd question: No.

How much do you need to sand on Oil base paint before you can prime and paint with latex?

My front door is wood and was originally painted with oil base paint. The previous home owners painted over it with fresh latex paint when they put the house on the market. but shortly after we moved in it all pealed off . I'd like to paint it again but I'm not sure how much I'm suppose to sand before I prime it.How much do you need to sand on Oil base paint before you can prime and paint with latex?
sand to remove the sheen of the old oil finish and then wipe clean with a tack cloth.

Any chips should be sanded out to eliminate any rough edges.

Also, the improperly applied latex shoul dbe completely removed.

An oil primer over the old oil finish and then the latex will provide better grip into the old oil finish but can be avoided by proper sanding and cleaning.

DO NOT USE KILZ for this. The latex primer provides no benefit here and the oil base version is quick frying which means brittle which means it typically lasts less on front doors - particularly the exterior.

Latex on the exterior is FINE. In fact since oil is not what it used to be - latex will look better longer. Latex WILL adhere to oil if you sand and use a high grade latex.

80 or 100 grit paper will make your door look horrible !!! Use a very fine paper. You are looking to remove the sheen - that is all.

Stripping to bare wood is awesom eif you have the time, space and energy but it isnt required to have a good, long lasting finish here.

I like the fact that the oil is on the bare wood. But for best and long lasting color USE LATEX FINISH on the exterior. (unless we are talking about a bridge where we can stil bust out lead based paint!!)How much do you need to sand on Oil base paint before you can prime and paint with latex?
Sand until the gloss is off and until any loose paint is gone. Then prime and paint.
pritty much down to the door itself (the wood) or intil the glossy like finish is all sanded down or get a chemical called stripper. this chemical should peel that oilbased paint right off. do not use in a plastic bottle this chemical also slowly eats plastic. it may be found at any paint store. this stuff can be dangerous if not used in a proper area such as in a room with no ventalation.
The purpose of sanding is to get the old paint and dirt off so that the primer can adhere properly. Therefore, only sand until the surface is free of most of the paint and it is smooth to the touch (if you can feel bumps that means that paint has clumped up in that area --be sure to smooth that out or it will be visable when you repaint)

It is essential that you primer the area as the door because as you have found out, latex paint doesn't adhere very well on oil painted surfaces.
Use an electric finish sander, and 100 grit paper. Sand it until the sheen is gone and it appears 'flat'. Make sure any shine is gone. Then use a good primer, such as Kilz.
just sand it enough to give it a dull finish. Wipe it down and you're good to go.
Sand all the latex off and buy some enamel paint anything oil base and repaint you dont want to use latex paint outside thats bad news. If all the latex is removed just rough the door up with 100 or 80 grit and paint.
Just sand it until you see the latex gone in most areas. Scuff along the areas that cant be removed or strip it and you then paint over it.
Remove all the new Latex, which should be easy, then Prime the door with Flat oil base Paint- you can then repaint with Oil or latex. High gloss does not look good, so use some Flat mixed in to dull the high gloss a bit.
Sand until all loose paint is off wipe clean I have always gotten good results using Gripper primmer this is a latex bonding primmer which bonds to anything including ceramic tile Home Depot sells it then I would use a good exterior latex semi-gloss

How do you cast latex in a latex mold?

I made something. Cast it in latex for a mold. Now I need to cast it again. I would also like a suggestion of something else to fill the mold with? Like rubber? How do you cast latex in a latex mold?
You should be able to find latex separator materials listed on the makers website if not in or one the packaging. The kind of latex I use - paint on molding compound - does not work for casting - it will not set properly, so you must be using something outside my experience.

Is an epoxy reinforced paint (such as benjamin moore patio and latex paint) sufficient to use in garage?

wondering if should use a pure 100% epoxy cover instead. Is an epoxy reinforced paint (such as benjamin moore patio and latex paint) sufficient to use in garage?
I have used the B/J and I am a paint contractor for more than 15 years and I prefer it to epoxy. It dries faster and doesn't smell as awful and is very durable and I have never been called back to job for a customer that was not satisfied and they colors to chose from are awesome. Just be sure to follow the directions on the can and make sure that you roll it on evenly so that it dries wellIs an epoxy reinforced paint (such as benjamin moore patio and latex paint) sufficient to use in garage?
First; one cannot expect much of commercial house

paint (or almost any paint) from the big box and

discount stores. You really get what you pay for with

paint so stay away from the discount stores. There are

so many ad dollars loaded in quality cannot go in the

can. Heck you can buy interior wall paint at Walmart

for $7 a gallon! The can and label cost $1.50 so that

leaves $5.50. Walmart made a profit so how much

quality do you think went in the can? Zip, zero Nada!

And yet there are long lines in the paint department.

It's the same story at HD, Lowes, Menards and others.

Quality is considerably better with products from the

global giants such as SW, ICI and Valspar but the same

rule of economics applies; big ad dollars, thousands

of salesmen and big administration means quality

cannot go in the can. There is no argument that when

you buy paint you are paying for their ad and

    administration budget.

There are five kinds of latex resin with 100% acrylic

being at the top of the pile for quality. I wouldn't

apply anything in an outdoor architectural application

except 100% acrylic and you are unlikely to find 100%

acrylic at the box stores. Even if you did it would be

lacking in other ingredients such as binders and solid

content. One of the best telltales for judging quality

is to look at the back of the label where it lists

solid content by volume. This isn't an ad for Top

Secret Coatings products, just a fact. Our products

always include higher solid content by volume which

equals quality. It's also why our products spread

further, adhere better and last longer. So what you

have been buying is part of the problem.

Another key to getting better results is choosing the

right product. As stated previously 100% acrylic is

very useful stuff. It is used in a wide variety of

applications including interior, exterior and some

marine applications, however, it is good to note than

unless you get an acrylic rated for marine

applications don't except it to be waterproof. Acrylic

is typically water resistant which is a whole lot

different than waterproof. Architectural paints must

breathe or the structure may get mold and mildew going

    inside.

Solvent based epoxy has the highest possible adhesion

rating, it has excellent chemical resistance and its

tough but there are problems with it. It is completely

inflexible, won't take heat past 140F and chalks,

discolors and looses its gloss way too fast. Two

component urethane is a big improvement over epoxy.

Two component urethanes are colorfast, gloss retentive

and have better heat and flexibility properties than

two component epoxies. Good alkyds are also a good

option but I don't want to take all day to get to the

    point here.

We have a cool and unusual product I would like to

suggest. It is Top Secret Coatings 1 Part Epoxy. It is

a silicone based mono-epoxy with alkyd and urethane in

it making it a blend. We came up with this product

because of the problems associated with two component

epoxy and urethanes. 1 Part Epoxy retains the

desirable aspects of two component epoxy and urethane

without the mixing. Like typical epoxy it has the

highest possible adhesion rating, its waterproof and

has excellent chemical resistance. It is tremendously

flexible and hard making it durable. It takes heat to

400F, impacts to 500PSI and won't crack, peel or

chalk. It is a high performance, low build coating so

it goes on much thinner than paint. In fact it will

cover white with black at only 1 mil which is unheard

of. A sheet of paper is 4 mils. We've seen people get

well over 800 sq ft out of one gallon because it

covers so well. That makes it very economical to use.

Since it is so flexible, has such good adhesion and

low film build it can be applied direct to almost any

    surface including fiberglass, aluminum, copper,

composites, plastic, steel, ceramics even vinyl sheet

    goods!

I hope this information is useful.

  • We have high gloss interior latex paint peeling on the trim. What is causing this and how to fix?

I did the alcohol swab test to see if the original paint was oil or latex and since paint came off easily, it looks like the old owners painted high gloss latex (the current peeling paint) over another high gloss latex. How can we fix this?We have high gloss interior latex paint peeling on the trim. What is causing this and how to fix?
Either the trim was dirty or oily or they painted during high humidity, like heavy rain with windows or doors open.

If you have a lot of trim doing this good luck. You would need to strip it all off with either paint remover or a heat gun or a propane torch. These techniques are all very hazardous. We have high gloss interior latex paint peeling on the trim. What is causing this and how to fix?
sand or burn it off back to wood then apply primer, undercoat and 2 top coats of paint.
There is something on the trim that the paint won't adhere to..

Scrape it off and clean thoroughly before starting again.

Try using an undercoat next time.

If it's the one coat gloss then it's rubbish, professionals won't use that.
I think that the other paint was oil. Latex over oil does not work. You can scrape it all and paint again with oil, it won't come off. Is it a humid area? This could cause it to lift as well.
You'll have to sand it off and paint it again.
either use a chemical stripper and take off both coats, or sand it

    either way is messy.

even removing the trim is a chore
Your dealing with lead base paint. Use and oil based enamel.

No. Just remember that humid weather can make someone’s hair turn frizzy. Water-based paints do the same thing to natural-bristle brushes, so you will want to use a synthetic brush with latex paint.

What type of brush works best with oil-based paint?

Natural bristles are best for most oil-based finishes including varnishes and stains. Their soft tips leave fewer brush marks.

What should I do about a doctor who used latex gloves on me knowing that I was allergic to latex?

My first question to you is, did you have a severe allergic reaction? It may be a good idea to always remind your doctors of your latex allergy. Doctors are human too, and they do make mistakes, and while I'm not excusing him from fault, take some responsibility for your condition if your allergy is severe. I have very serious allergies too, and I always remind my doctors of them just to be safe.

If you did have a serious reaction, you could file a malpractice lawsuit, but please think twice about it. Everyone makes mistakes, and I doubt very seriously your doctor meant to do you harm. The more malpractice lawsuits people file, the more costly health care becomes, and I think we can all agree it's too costly now. What should I do about a doctor who used latex gloves on me knowing that I was allergic to latex?
If you can prove the encounter caused you harm then you may be able to file some sort of suit. Other than that you may just have to find another doctor. What should I do about a doctor who used latex gloves on me knowing that I was allergic to latex?
    You could legally sue him.
I tell every medical person that may come in contact with me that I am allergic to latex. Sometimes more than once. When I had my son, I asked that any latex gloves be removed from the room! Just because it's on your file does not mean they look at it. Did you have a reaction? You should bring this to your doc's attention. It was probably just a mistake, but you still need to tell him/her what happened so it doesn't happen again.
First ask him about the gloves. It is possible they only looked like they were latex. If they actually were latex and they knew you were allergic I would suggest you find another dr
Did you see him take the gloves out of a box labeled ';latex gloves';? Latex and non.latex gloves can look similar.
You should go back to him and tell him that what you saw has been bothering you. Remind him that you are having a latex allergy. It may be that he forgot.

Either that, or change to another doctor.

If you don't happen to have paint thinner, you could try nail polish remover. I've used it on clothing and carpet. Acetone would be a better solvent but you could try the non-acetone too. Also there's ';goof off'; but may remove dye from fabric. wear gloves with this stuff.
    Paint thinner.
I don't think you are going to get it out...Latex is usually impossible after it drys. Maybe you could put some cool patches, rhinestones or embroidery over the spots. Even add more paint! Heck, rip a few slits in them too, and you would pay $150.00 for them!! LOL You can also cut out the paint spots out and patch from the reverse side with some cool fabric showing thru!

How do I dissolve raw latex in white mineral oil?

I want to dissolve some raw rubber/latex in white mineral oil. So far the latex seems sparingly soluble. Any advice? Heat? Prolonged stirring?

Thanks. How do I dissolve raw latex in white mineral oil?
Raw latex is a emulsion of polymer in water. When mixed with the mineral oil, the water is insoluble; no amount of mixing or heating will dissolve the two. Moreover, the polymer that is emulsified is physically separated from the mineral oil because it is in a separate phase (aqueous).

What needs to be done is to get the polymer from the latex out of the water. Once the water is removed, the polymer can be dissolved in the mineral oil, as long as the polymer has not been ';prevulcanized';; in which case it will not dissolve. A number of steps can be taken to coagulate the latex; the addition of acetic acid (vinegar) crashes natural latex, as do nitrate salts. Simply evaporating the water away will separate out the polymer as well.

Start every brush stroke in an unfinished area, at an edge. Then brush toward the finished area and sweep the brush up and off the work in the same movement. If you stop the brush and then lift it off or set the brush down on a finished area to start the stroke, it will leave extra paint, which shows up as a brush mark or darker spot.

If it is dried, I would use a flat shovel and scrape it off.

If it is still wet, I would get a thin board and put it near the wet paint, then get another thin board and scrape the paint with the second board on to the first one that is on the ground. (you'll need help with someone holding down the board to the ground) After you get as much as you can scraped up, poor that paint in to the bucket. After you get as much of it up as you can, spray toward a gutter with the hose. Latex paint is water soluble and will wash away.

If that sounds like too much, let it dry, see what can be peeled up with a shovel.

I am getting stop and start brush lines even though I am flicking my wrist with the brush and I just don't stop and pull the brush away, but I am still getting stop and start lines. Thank you in advance for your answers. What is the proper method for painting a door with latex semi gloss so you don't get stop and start lines.?
You might want to try a foam rollerWhat is the proper method for painting a door with latex semi gloss so you don't get stop and start lines.?
i start the next brush stroke after picking up more paint just beyond the end of the last stroke. the overlap on the downstroke making sure not to flicking my wrist. when i am at the end of a stroke with the brush i pull my hand and brush away from the surface without stopping the stroke or flicking my wrist. the start lines are most likely because you are placing the brush on the surface for your upstroke then not completely overlapping the start line on the downstroke. the stop line isnt really important because it will be fixed with the next stroke.
We bought a really cheap paint sprayer and did it that way. When you spray the paint on the door it looks sort of ';bumpy'; but the bumps fade into the paint once it dries. It actually works really well other than the fact that you have to spray the doors outside becuase the paint travels.
You can roll it if the door is a flat one OR you can spray it. Both will do just fine. It WILL eliminate your problem.

How do I remove latex paint from my carpet? Its water based, but has dried...?

I am re-decorating my daughters bedroom and despite the drop sheets there is a little paint on the carpet...

Does anyone know how to get it out?How do I remove latex paint from my carpet? Its water based, but has dried...?
Being a faux finisher, I get paint on almost everything, including carpet, draperies, my clothing you name it. Mostenbockers makes a latex paint remover that will get it off. You can find it at home improvement stores and in the cleaning aisle of the discounters (near the laundry supplies). You can also use GoofOff which is at the home improvement stores, but it has some real strong fumes for a child's bedroom. How do I remove latex paint from my carpet? Its water based, but has dried...?
I have used WD-40 with some success. Family Dollar sells a pet spray for carpet that takes most things out. It works on pet deposits and motor oil, so it may work. Unfortunately I don't remember the brand name, but I think it was a generic.
There is some stuff called OOPS! That you can but at Wal-Mart it will take it right out
latex can just peel off sometimes, although you may need to take a razor to it, grazing it, to get the majority of it off if that doesnt work.
Try a can of Oops the all purpose remover and cleaner.Wal-Mart sells it.

In British hospitals is it illegal to dispose of used latex gloves in the black household bags? ?

In British hospitals is it illegal to dispose of used latex gloves in black household bags ?

also is it illegal to dispose of cloths that have been used for cleaning with acti chlor plus ,in black household bags?

and how about cloths that have been used to clean up bodily fluids

(urine and poo) should they go into black bags?

Should these not be disposed of in yellow bags for incineration? In British hospitals is it illegal to dispose of used latex gloves in the black household bags? ?
Depends on the use of the gloves. If considered clinical waste then they should be disposed of in yellow bags, or sharps bins. Clinical waste is defined below:

';Clinical waste is defined in the Controlled Waste Regulations 1992. It means any waste which consists wholly or partly of:

    human or animal tissue;

    blood or bodily fluids;

    excretions;

    drugs or other pharmaceutical products;

    swabs or dressings; or;

    syringes, needles or other sharp instruments;

which unless rendered safe may prove hazardous to any person coming into contact with it. And:

    any other waste arising from medical, nursing, dental, veterinary, pharmaceutical or similar practice, investigation, treatment, care teaching or research, or the collection of blood for transfusion, being waste which may cause infection to any person coming into contact with it.';

Whilst some actions may be technically illegal, it is very unlikely that they will be detected, if detected assigning blame is difficult, if blame assigned probably not financially viable to prosecute. Not entirely sure of legalitiesIn British hospitals is it illegal to dispose of used latex gloves in the black household bags? ?
I worked in a UK hospital for two years, and there were three sets of refuse bags: the black ones for general waste (food etc), white for paperwork (for shredding of confidential files), and yellow for hazardous waste, which includes latex gloves and cloths used for cleaning bodily fluids.

While I am not sure of the actual legalities, if they exist, every worker at the hospital was fully debriefed/instructed on the proper usage of the bags. Any misuse would come from individuals themselves and not from the lack of guidelines, as they were very strict. If any worker was caught ignoring the rules they were severely reprimanded... well, at my hospital anyway. I cannot comment on all UK hospitals.
As far as I am aware it is not illegal.

If it was then you'd have every mother in the country who ever put a pooey nappy in the bin being charged,or every woman who wrapped up used sanitary towels, or people with incontinence pads etc...
they dont use black household bags in hospitals. Their very name 'household' should give you an idea as to where these bags are used. In hospitals you have yellow bags for incineration, dont recall seeing other colour bags.
Nope, i think if a doctor uses them and sticks his hand up someones bum then it will go in clinical waste but when i wear them to prepare medicines i just put them in a black bag.
I'm not sure u can ask a professional doctor.

I have searched all the previously asked questions about paint on carpet, but have tried them all with no good results, and I am searching for another way!

Tried ';oops'; per a reccomendation from a paint store, but that just smeared it around in the carpet and made it a bit worse... Does anyone have any good suggestions, or things they have done that work? How do I remove latex paint from carpet?
I have used Krud Kutter (paint section of Wal-Mart) and Mean Green. When you get something like that on carpet it is important to remember to pull up with the fibers and not make circular motions until all the biggest pieces are gone. I used the Krud Kutter on carpet and a pair of cotton pants when I got brown exterior paint on them and it took 2 washes but it all came out.How do I remove latex paint from carpet?

what i use is a 4 '; mini roller--start at bottom--roll half way up--then brush down ward, keeping straight lines with brush, lightly ,then do top half using same method, when brush comes to wet paint below follow thru, don t just stop, never try to brush paint after it starts to dry, it will roll on you, and never paint in direct sun light, if the surface is hot paint will dry too quick, always paint from dry to wet, stir paint often, practice on scrap material to get the hang of it, even if it a big piece of card board good luck and thanks for asking meWhat is the proper method for painting a door with latex semi gloss so you don't get stop and start lines.?
    Roll doors. Two coats.
use a roller. the brush marks arent that noticable when it dries also u could try to let the paint dry just enough to get tacky then take your brush lightly back over it. usually works for me
Don't buy cheap paint. Also, clean door with TSP first.
Use whats called a hot dog roller! really works great!!
    1. Have you cleaned and PRIMED the door? 2. Was the paint stirred WELL? 3. Interior paint for indoors and EXTERIOR paint for outdoors. 4. Use a roller. 5.Finally SPRAY (air paint) the door. IT SOUNDS LIKE THE PAINT WASNT STIRRED WELL.
I agree with Dr Dirt, but I would add .. I use a heaver coat of paint That helps hide brush and roller marks, cause the paint is just heavy enough to flow back and fill in the marks.... the thinner you spread out the paint the more marks are left...that and practice is the key.

What kind of paint or glazed to use over flat latex paint to make it glozzy?

just paint my room using a flat latex paint . Now i need to put something to make it glossy . what kind of paint or glazed i can use to make the flat paint glossy .What kind of paint or glazed to use over flat latex paint to make it glozzy?
Well, of course, you can do as the first two have suggested, and repaint with a semi-gloss or gloss paint. oR, you can use a latex urethane, which is clear, and comes in satin, semi-gloss or gloss finish. This is the product I use when I've given walls a faux finish of some sort and then want to give them an additional protective coat. Since it's latex/water-based, it's very easy to apply.

Most paint companies sell a similar product: what I have now is Valspar's Water-based Urethane Varnish. The ';Gloss'; version of this product is VeRY glossy - as in, super shiney. Hope this helps!

';Glaze';, or glazing liquid, as another has suggested, is not a glossy finish, but matte. What kind of paint or glazed to use over flat latex paint to make it glozzy?
well you can go over it with a simi-gloss of the same color.
get a can of water based clear varnish in the gloss you want (semi or high) I recommend semi gloss.

It is compatible with latex paint and makes a tough washable finish over any color you want the easy, water based way. Much easier than enamel color paint application.
Latex, high gloss enamel (should have been your first choice).
There are pint and gallon cans of glaze in your local hardware store. I get mine at Home Depot in the Behr Faux Paint section.

I haven't had a spill that size, but ,on the dried paint I have encountered I use a spray bottle of ammonia (the real stuff) and a scrub brush. It has worked for me several times. Don't worry about over-soaking it, and be patient. It may take several applications and a lot of time. But you should see results quickly and it doesn't bleach the carpet.
I like Ashton's Mom's answer, but for future reference, a wet rag will get wet latex out easy. I can't even remember how many times I've spilled or splattered or dripped paint on carpet, and none of my customers knew it cause I got the paint out.
i had paint on my car seat and a mechanic friend of mine used paint thinner and it took it right off.. my seats were a light color thought , so i would reccomend starting with a small patch to make sure it dosen't discolor your brown carpet .. it's worth a shot..
Goof off or Oops! Test them in a small place out of the way first, though, to be sure that it doesn't take the color out of the carpet. Good luck! :(

If you do not plan on needing the ears back in their original shape, glue it. If use glue, make sure it can be used on the material the ears are made (maybe use rubber cement?). If you cut them, the cut line will probably be white edges and would have to come up with idea to color (permanent marker).

Do nicotine stains on walls and trim bleed through latex primers?

do i have to use shellac or KILZ? which is better?Do nicotine stains on walls and trim bleed through latex primers?
Nicotine stains are water soluble and will be activated by the water in a latex primer or paint and bleed into the primer or paint.

Shellac or oil based stain blockers both work well on nicotine stains. I think you will find that the odor is less objectionable with shellac, and it doesn't linger as long as the oil based stain blockers.Do nicotine stains on walls and trim bleed through latex primers?
Zinser Bin 123 is a shellac based primer and Kilz comes in both oil based and water based. Kilz orginal/low VOC or odourless will do the job for you. Bleed through is frustrating when walls just been freshly painted. Read the label it will say cover and seal smoke stains. They are both good products

Past experience: before i got into this business, I painted my living room walls 6 times and still bleed through. Don't cut corners, it cost more money and time in the end.

  • How do I know if the paint on my interior wall is an oil paint or latex paint?

We live in a 35 year old house. We want to repaint over some existing wood panels that were painted before we bought the house. We need to figure out if we need to use an oil based paint or if we can use a latex paint. How do I know if the paint on my interior wall is an oil paint or latex paint?

In general, a latex primer and/or paint should work.

If the painted surface is in good shape (ie. no peeling paint, nothing bleeding through the previous paint job, etc.), you simply have to follow the three rules of painting: Clean, dry, and dull.

Clean with a non-suddsing cleaner. (Spick and span, TSP)

    Allow enough time to dry.

Sand (no finer than 80 grid paper) the surface to create enough profile for the primer or paint to bite into to.

Feel free to drop me line if you have any more questions.

    d_bpainter @yahoo.com
Oil usually appears to be a thicker, shinier paint. You cannot paint latex over oil or it will bubble.

If you use liquid sand or Willbond first (no matter what the paint is now) you should be able to paint it with anything you like, if there are any stains then you can use Kiltz as your primer.

If you go to a Home Depot, Lowes or any paint store they should be able to tell you exactly what you need.
Before you paint over you want to figure out what it is now right? If you can get your hands on some acetone based nail polish remover you can use that. Using some nail polish remover (with acetone) and a cotton puff or tissue rub the wall and if it softens and comes off it is latex and if there is no residue or softening of the paint it is oil. Then you go from there on what you can put over top of it. Happy painting.
if oil based paint was used and you paint over it with flat wall paint in like a test area it will run down the wood work kind of like if you threw water on it.

Is there an expedient way to get water-based latex paint off of your skin?

i've got a big splotch of it on my leg, and i've been scrubbing it once a day with hot water and soap for a few days now, but it's not completely coming off. Any suggestions on how to get it off quickly? Is there an expedient way to get water-based latex paint off of your skin?
With all due respect, Water would have worked instantly initially.

I paint every day of my life, probably wear a lot as well, and removal is easy? I'm very confused about your issue. First of all I'll assume you didn't wipe it immediately. Do you bathe or shower? A shower or bath with any soap and a shower scrubby would remove it. Latex becomes LIKE a Skin and water will peel it even when dry, it works all the time in paint cans and paint roller trays. No offense but if your LEG is hairy, the paint may stick to the hair more, but...................

Just ones natural body oils and moisture would help peel it.

Obviously you can spend money on products, but unless you need them otherwise, why bother??? Liquid dish detergent, liquid laundry detergent, bar soap, HARD scrubbing with water even using a car wash rag will work.

I think I'd be checking the paint can label.

    Steven Wolf

Just my 2 ';sense';Is there an expedient way to get water-based latex paint off of your skin?
If it is indeed a latex paint then water and a nail brush or loofah should take it right off! If it's an oil based paint then you will need something like a paint remover sold at hardware stores but you could try baby oil or vegtable oil that seems to help loosen it at least!
Kind of strange that it didn't come off with just soap and warm water. Try a little nail polish remover and a nail brush. If that doesn't work, you might want to switch your brand of paint.
    Baby oil works great!
Orange hand cleaner with pumice, like Gojo, works well.

Is latex body paint and liquid latex used in most mask the same thing?

I need to order latex for a mask I'm making and I wanted to know if liquid latex and body paint latex is pretty much the same. Like will they do the same job.Is latex body paint and liquid latex used in most mask the same thing?
no, latex paint is like acrylic paint (as opposed to oil paint.) It's thin and colored and made for painting. Liquid latex for making masks is thick like a rubber Halloween mask. You brush it on in layers, and then it dries as flexible rubber. call customer service before you order to make sure what you're getting. www . sculpt . com has all that kind of stuff and a great tech support phone line.

  • How do I get the lowest sheen from latex paint?

I touched up some ceiling scuffs, and now you can see where I painted. The ceiling is drywall.I was using a flat (matte finish) white, latex paint. Is there a better paint that I should use? Would a paint, specifically labeled ';ceiling paint';, give me a lower luster finish? How do I get the lowest sheen from latex paint?
It is rather common for new drywall ceilings to be left unpainted. It is likely that what you have on the ceiling is raw drywall compound, especially if there is some kind of design in it.

If the ceiling has not been painted, you will not get a paint to match the sheen of what you have. If you really want to cover your touchups, you will need to paint the entire ceiling. Because it has not been painted, use a good drywall primer (no need for Kilz or anything that extreme) followed with a flat paint of your choosing.

Ceiling white is usually a flat paint with additional colorant added, generally white, sometimes just a touch of blue to correct color perception of light reflected from the ceiling. I like to use ceiling white because of the improved lighting, it tends to make the room look a bit bigger, but any flat will be fine.

Other than that, some brands of flat have less sheen than others. If you really want to just touch up, you may want to experiment with different brands. The difference is not very extreme. How do I get the lowest sheen from latex paint?
    just paint the whole thing
nope. flat is as dull as it gets
Paint is sold in high gloss, semi-gloss and matte finish, whether latex or oil-based. The matte finish probably will have given you the most satisfactory results.

On the other hand, as paint ages, it loses lustre and also decomposes (which means the color will change - usually it darkens). That means that even with the matte finish, it would be obvious where you touched up, just less obvious than with high-gloss or semi-gloss.

You will probably find that repainting the entire ceiling looks far better than touch-up. That's what I'd do, anyway...
More than likely you just need two coats on the entire ceiling. Patches usually ';flash through'; which just means that they absorbed all the paint. You'll never perfectly match an existing coat of paint with a new paint so if you want the ceiling to look good, paint the whole thing with a good quality paint. I wouldn't recommend Glidden for one thing, you can just about get the same thing from your faucet.
Unfortunately you will always see ';touch ups';. Would have been better to try cleaning it first. Painters will never stop painting a wall half way through because you will always see where they have commenced painting again.

If it is very noticeable suggest you paint the lot.

Is it difficult or painful to remove liquid latex from the skin?

My artist husband is going to apply liquid latex to most of my torso for a halloween costume. We've never done this before and I'm little worried about the clean up. Is it hard to get off? Does it hurt while being removed? I imagine that it grabs on to all your body hair. Will I die like the girl in ';Goldfinger';?Is it difficult or painful to remove liquid latex from the skin?
well on mythbusters they did an episode like that to see if people died from the heat and they did get a little hot so dont do too much. to answer your question (as they did on mythbusters) when the peeled it off their eyebrows it hurt but it is kinda like a peel face mask but a little thickerIs it difficult or painful to remove liquid latex from the skin?
