I'm making ashtrays out of plaster of paris and painting them with latex paint. I need a sealant that is thick and can withstand the heat/burn of a cigarette being put out on it without burning through the sealant and ruining the paint. 2 part epoxy pour on would work great for this. You mix it in a paper cup, pour it over the piece you want to protect, tip it around so it is smooth and let it set up. you can get this stuff at most hardware and or woodworking stores.
