Couple, one weighs 10 stones the other weighs 11.5 stones,
Tend to sleep on side rather than back or belly,
Don't want a very soft mattress but like the comfortable feel of something not too hard (if you sleep on your side it's not nice on your shoulder either),
Would like to use mattress pad for hygienic purposes but not sure if this makes the quality of a good mattress below less effective.
One of us sometimes has backaches, the other doesn't.
Any advice on type (material, thickness) of mattress I should buy? Links to good websites welcome but I prefer an answer that's more than a link alone. What is the best mattress for us - foam, latex, spring?
ok my advice -- memory foam is good (top of the line only) -- so is select comfort -- mattress pads don't take away from the mattress they are supposed to enhance comfort and protect the mattress. What is the best mattress for us - foam, latex, spring?
Memory foam mattress

Have always slept on spring mattresses, but since developing a bad back thought that i would try to a ';memory'; foam mattress. Slept on it for a week and back got increasingly bad. Am now back onto the spring mattress but have a thick mattress protector/pad for increased comfort.
One approach would be to configure the foam components in each half of a full size case to satisfy your individual comfort preferences.
